Ivan & Alyosha

Harmony-drenched and acoustic-driven, Seattle's Ivan & Alyosha fall into MOR folk territory along with plenty of their Pacific Northwest brethren. Playing to a sparsely populated Lee's crowd and minus a drummer -- filled out instead by an entirely capable floor-tom-playing bassist -- the combo ran through an amiable set that avoided the playfulness of Throw Me the Statue and the austerity of Fleet Foxes, falling likably if unremarkably in between. For his part, frontman Tim Wilson was affable and gracious, his Justin Rutledge-evoking voice carrying strummed tracks, like the gospel-indebted standout "Glorify," while sporadic multi-part harmonies were polished and occasionally stirring.
