Continuing to distance himself from the absolute calamity that was Fyre Festival, Ja Rule is getting in on the NFT craze by selling an oil painting of the event's logo for a cool $122,000 USD.
The 48-inch-by-60-inch oil on canvas painting of the fest's corporate logo, which Ja Rule himself commissioned, was auctioned off earlier this week through "physical NFT" marketplace Flipkick. Ja Rule is listed as the company's Head of Artist & Repertoire on their official website.
A listing for the piece notes that the painting previously "hung confidently on the wall of the office of Fyre Inc, in New York, NY," where it "once spoke of an endless [font] of ambition."
However, "Now it speaks of the fever dreams of a man whose reach exceeded his grasp." Rule told Forbes that since the company's closure, the painting had been hanging in his New Jersey mansion, and that he "just wanted that energy out."
The buyer that had no issues ponying up $122,000 will receive a one-of-a-kind digital version of the artwork, on top of the physical painting itself. The artwork, which can be signed by the Ja Rule includes a note from Ja Rule himself: "Fuck this painting."
Ja Rule told Forbes that, not unlike a lot of us, "I heard about NFTs [first] maybe like, a couple of weeks ago...I wasn't too educated on them, and I'm still learning a lot about it....I think people got a little bit tired of the regular stocks-and-bonds way of investing."
In 2019, it was reported that Fyre Fest would be chronicled in a feature film, after its story was told in a pair of documentaries.
