Jack White has just been awarded the Key to the City in Cincinnati.

The White Stripes hero was given the honours on Sunday (June 3) by Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley outside the famed King Records building. Also in attendance were King Records legends Otis Williams, Philip Paul and Bootsy Collins.

As a press release explains, White was given the Key to the City to highlight his advocacy for music preservation and, more specifically, his support of King Records, which has served as home to the aforementioned artists and the likes of James Brown.

"Jack White has been an unfailing supporter of King Records," said Cranley. "Jack has actually covered Little Willie John's song, 'I'm Shakin',' which on the original recording our own Philip Paul played the drums, and he recently wore a King Records shirt in a cover story for Q Magazine."

The city of Cincinnati recently acquired the King Records building, effectively saving the historic landmark from demolition. Now city officials are looking to restore the site, and you can learn more and donate here.

As recently reported, White made headline last week for giving some high school students the best lunchtime ever in Washington, DC.
