James Corden returned to his hosting gig at The Late Late Show yesterday (January 3) following a holiday hiatus, and he took a moment to pay homage to the late George Michael.
In a heartfelt tribute to the singer, Corden revealed that Michael actually played a huge role in the creation of the late-night show's virally successful Carpool Karaoke segment.
The idea came about during a sketch for the UK charity event Comic Relief Red Nose Day back in 2011 — and that bit spawned the idea for what Carpool Karaoke has become.
Footage from the Michael sketch even helped convince future guests like Mariah Carey that it was a great idea to appear on Corden's show. After watching Corden and Michael grooving to "I'm Your Man," Carey decided: "If it's good enough for George, it's good enough for me. I'll do it."
