Promising to "take you somewhere," everyone's favourite R&B android, Janelle Monáe, brought her Pepsi-backed cover of David Bowie's "Heroes" to the Late Show with David Letterman audiences last night (June 11).
Backed by a nine-piece band, Monáe crooned, spun, and embraced a few lyrics head on by choreographing a front crawl with back-up singers during the tune's "I wish you could swim, like the dolphins can swim." Playing a bit busier than the Bowie original, the cover added frenetic conga whaps and galloping guitar lines, in addition to Monáe's soulful boom.
You'll find her and the rest of the ensemble pogo through the classic for a late-night television audience down below.
