Montreal-by-way-of-Vancouver R&B artist Janette King is back with a slow-burning new single, shared with an accompanying video directed by Kenny McDonald.

Produced by Jordan Esau, entrancing fresh track "Faded" follows the Exclaim! New Faves alum's 2021 debut LP What We Lost.

"'Faded' expresses the agony felt when the one you love rejects your attempts to get closer," King said in a press release. "It's a song that explores the feelings that follow when love turns into apathy — when it starts to disappear and becomes faded over time."

The sonic tone of the single is anything but running on fumes: over a palatial backdrop of gently plucked strings, a resounding percussive heartbeat intensifies as King questions, "When did admiration turn to apathy? Superficiality, so we barely scratch the surface / I wanna witness the whole."

Check out the "Faded" video below.

Earlier this year, King was among the Canadian artists Exclaim! unmercifully asked to relive their awkward stages in photos.
