With Financial Glam, Athens-based producer Jar Moff builds upon the mountain of sonic detritus he began with the Commercial Mouth LP. A collagist who constructs stunning crescendos that serve as an augmented form of our own harsh reality, he has juxtaposed the economic turmoil of his home country with claustrophobic sheets of highly detailed sound. Taken at face value, the two extended pieces that Moff offers may appear far too dense to appreciate, but further investigation reveals just how intricate — almost fragile — his music truly is. Orchestras become a source of percussion, horns are bent in gale-force winds, and demonic cries are wrapped in gauze and stretched to infinity. Smatterings of electronic goo are present for the sole purpose of containing these chaotic events within the vinyl record, lest they leap from the turntable to strangle the listener. Composed over the course of a year and carefully assembled from a collection of hundreds of samples, Financial Glam is a testament to the meticulous and cunning nature of its creator.
