In attempts to ward off any looming mid-life crises, Jarvis Cocker has revealed plans for a heavier, more rockin follow up to 2006s Jarvis. The former Pulp front-man recently explained to the BBC that hes discovered his inner rock and now is set to let it out on his upcoming album, which will be "recorded as soon as possible but likely wont see the light of day until 2009.
Cocker said the new direction has much to do with his current backing band, which includes UK songwriter and fellow Pulp alumnus Richard Hawley, and the realisation that they "could rock.
"That really made me think. Id never really had that before, Cocker said. "Pulp could be loud, but we didnt really rock... Well, maybe occasionally.
"So what Ive tried to do with the new stuff, rather than me just sit there and wait for inspiration to come at some point which takes ages instead weve written stuff together. And its a bit louder. Its probably something to do with some kind of mid-life crisis as well, yknow? Rock while you still have the ability to do it before your bits start falling off.
Cocker and company are expected to road test some of the new material during their upcoming tour dates, which find them hitting up only a trio of U.S. cities. Here they are:
7/19 Chicago IL, Pitchfork Music Festival @ Union Park
7/21 Brooklyn NY, Music Hall of Williamsburg
7/22 New York NY, Terminal 5
