Jason Collett's albums can be grand, majestic pop statements, but his live show sometimes likes to scale things down a tad. As we previously reported, the artist aims to reflect these more intimate performances with the release of his new minimalist makeover set, which we can now tell you is named Pony Tricks. We can also gladly tell you that the record has now been beefed up to a full-length album.
While his busy schedule promoting this year's Rat A Tat Tat initially had the Toronto singer-songwriter mapping out Pony Tricks as an EP of back catalogue do-overs, once Collett got in the groove he decided to roll it out as another long player.
Its 11 songs refurbish classic, fully arranged country rockers like "Papercut Hearts" and "Bitter Beauty" into more subtle acoustic renditions, while also tossing in a few new gems, namely "Pulling the Sun Down" and "My Daddy Was a Rock n' Roller."
Collett will issue the more timid collection October 12 on via Arts & Crafts, but you can get yourself a taste of what's to come if you send the label your email address. Do so, and you'll be rewarded with opening cut "Bitter Beauty."
