Ever since they called it quits in 1996, the odds have been slim that the members of Jawbreaker would put aside their differences and reunite onstage. In fact, the concept of a Jawbreaker reunion is so far-fetched that there's even a band with the tongue-in-cheek name Jawbreaker Reunion. All of that said, it looks as if the real-life return of Jawbreaker might be a possibility.
Last month, former Jawbreaker drummer Adam Pfahler gave a talk at the Giant Robot 2 gallery in Los Angeles. He admitted that the band were open to a reunion, and that they'd even rehearsed their songs.
"We've totally talked about it, and everyone is excited," Pfahler said of the band's potential return. "We played a couple of songs just to see if we could still do it.... We weren't sure if we could still do it. We could still do it."
Pfahler also admitted that the band had been approached by Coachella to play some reunion shows. "They offer you crazy money to do two shows, and that's amazing. But it just hasn't come to that. The kind of people we are, Blake [Schwarzenbach] would not do it for all the money in the world. And I would do it for nothing. So it's two sides of that same coin."
It turns out they did almost say yes to a major festival reunion, but they were bumped by a larger band (we're going to go ahead and guess it was the Replacements at Riot Fest).
"A couple of years back it got real close, but there was a bigger band, they were waiting on an answer to headline one of the festivals," Pfahler said. "And then sure enough they did it, they took their slot, and it relegated us to the following year. And the timing wasn't right the following year."
