Jay-Z Addresses CNN, Brooklyn Nets and Detractors in "Open Letter"

BY Stephen CarlickPublished Apr 11, 2013

Last week, when Jay-Z was in Cuba with Beyoncé, he tuned into CNN in hopes of hearing an update on the North Korean missile threat, and instead saw footage of himself strolling Havana streets. Outraged, the rapper took to a New York City studio last night (April 10) to record "Open Letter" over a Timbaland and Swizz Beats production.

The result finds Hov waxing pissed off about the media, addressing a number of other news stories plaguing him these days, including selling his share of the Brooklyn Nets ("Would have brought the Nets to Brooklyn for free / Except I made millions off you fuckin' dweebs /
I still own the building / I'm still keeping my seat…"), working with Universal ("Got an onion from Universal, read it and weep"), and those who still see Jay as a criminal ("Wanna give me jail time and a fine? / Fine, let me commit a real crime / Might buy a kilo for Chief Keef / out of spite, I just might flood these streets…").

Listen to "Open Letter" below.

UPDATE: Shortly after the release of "Open Letter," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney addressed the track. Check out the pretty amazing exchange at the bottom of the page.
