Sometimes, when your workweek has bogged you down, all you want to do is let loose with some friends, and there's no better place to do that than at a concert. If you've got that feeling but aren't sure what shows are going on, we've got you covered. As we do every week, we've scoured our extensive Concert Listings to let you know about some of the best shows happening in Canada.
From the warm punk rock sounds of the Flatliners, to the dark and sombre tones of Aldous Harding, and loads of beat-heavy hip-hop acts playing Toronto's Manifesto Festival, we've got something for any music fan in this week's picks, from June 8 to 14.
The Avalanches
Aussie electronic group the Avalanches made a comeback last year with Wildflower — their first album in over a decade — and now the band are taking those songs on the road. Fans of their lively, sample-heavy sound can get their first taste of the album live when they hit up Toronto and Montreal this week before heading home for a European tour.
06/08/2017 Toronto, ON – Phoenix Concert Theatre
06/10/2017 Montreal, QC – Théâtre Corona
The Flatliners
Toronto punk rock outfit the Flatliners released their fifth album Inviting Light a couple of months ago, and the band have been hitting the road hard ever since. If you haven't had the chance to see the band yet, now's the time to catch one of their highly energetic sets in Western Canada and Ontario this week, along with fellow Dine Alone Records bands the Dirty Nil and Sam Coffey & the Iron Lungs.
06/08/2017 Saskatoon, SK – Amigos Cantina
06/09/2017 Winnipeg, MB – The Park Theatre
06/10/2017 Thunder Bay, ON – Crocks
06/12/2017 Timmins, ON – The Working Class
06/14/2017 Ottawa, ON – Babylon
Jenn Grant
If laid back folk-pop is your jam, look no further than Halifax's Jenn Grant, who's been refining her soulful, dreamy sound for over a decade. Now, following the release of her diverse and exhilarating new album Paradise, East Coast fans have the opportunity to see her in action this week when she makes a stop in St. John's.
06/09/2017 St. John's, NL – The Majestic Theatre
Aldous Harding
New Zealand gothic folk singer Aldous Harding — who received huge props from fellow kiwi and pop megastar Lorde — gained the attention of critics around the world earlier this year with her dark and melancholic second album, Party. She'll be making her first appearances in Canada this week with two back-to-back shows in Toronto and Montreal.
06/11/2017 Montreal, QC – Divan Orange
06/12/2017 Toronto, ON – Velvet Underground
Luminato
Luminato Festival brings a vast range of international musicians to Toronto each year, along with an abundance of other artists, from media spanning theatre to dance and everything in between. For the 11th edition of the festival, attendees will have the chance to see over 60 artists perform a tribute to indigenous women at the festival's opening event, along with a whole slew of other fascinating, expressive events around the city.
06/14-25/2017 Toronto, ON – Various Venues
Manifesto
Hip-hop fans rejoice — Manifesto Festival is returning to Toronto with loads of stellar performers such as Majid Jordan, the Internet, Isaiah Rashad and many more. The festivities will start on June 8 with a launch party at the Drake Hotel, and will continue across the entire weekend, with the main event happening at Echo Beach and after-parties popping up all over downtown.
06/08-11/2017 Toronto, ON – Various Venues
Mount Kimbie
English electronic duo Mount Kimbie haven't released a new record since 2013's Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, but their recent single "We Go Home Together," featuring soft-singing electro artist James Blake, showed the band experimenting with new sounds and a more lo-fi, minimalistic approach. Fans from Vancouver can catch some of their strange soundscapes live this week before the band head back across the border.
06/08/2017 Vancouver, BC – The Imperial
Tool
Los Angeles prog-metal legends Tool have been on their first full-fledged tour in a decade, bringing along their extravagant and mind-bending visual show to back their strange, complex sound. Fans of the band living in the Prairies have the opportunity to catch their trippy live show this week when the band perform in Calgary and Edmonton.
06/12/2017 Calgary, AB – Scotiabank Saddledome
06/13/2017 Edmonton, AB – Rogers Place
