With the Grateful Dead celebrating their 50th anniversary (and saying farewell in the process), the revered jam band have enjoyed a recent boost in attention. The latest in a string of retrospective releases is Jerry on Jerry, a interviews book devoted to late frontman Jerry Garcia.
This book coincides with both the 50th anniversary of the Dead and the 20th anniversary of Garcia's death. It will be released in November through Black Dog & Leventhal (an imprint of Hachette Book Group).
Edited by Dennis McNally, the book brings together interviews that — according to the Associated Press — touch on various topics like drugs, politics, songwriting and childhood memories. Garcia's daughter Trixie said that the tome conveys the "fun-loving weirdness and creepy corners" of the musician's mind.
In addition to the standard book, Jerry on Jerry will be released in as audiobook containing more than eight hours of interviews. This will also be out in November.
Meanwhile, the Dead are also being remembered with an 80-disc box set, a Netflix documentary about Bob Weir, an in-the-works Martin Scorsese documentary and a rumoured tour with John Mayer. Also, their swan song performance in Chicago on July 5 will be broadcast in theatres.
