It's no secret that indie director Jim Jarmusch is a music aficionado. Not only do his films include a forthcoming Stooges documentary and the rock star-studded Coffee and Cigarettes, but he was previously a member of the '80s no wave band the Del-Byzanteens, and since then has dabbled in a few musical projects over the years. Next month, he'll make another foray into the world of music when he releases Concerning the Entrance into Eternity, a collaboration with Dutch lutist Jozef van Wissem that's due out February 28 through Important Records.
Time Out New York [via Pitchfork] reports that the album is based around Jarmusch's feedback-laden guitar and van Wissem's lute.
Below, you can hear the album cut "The Sun of the Natural World is Pure Fire," a nine-minute avant epic that places gentle lute plucking atop a squalling bed of heavily distorted guitar feedback. Imagine Metal Machine Music accompanied by acoustic plucking and you'll probably think of something a little like this.
The collaborators will play together at New York's ISSUE Project Room on February 3. Get tickets here.
