Jim O'Rourke Announces Old News Series for Editions Mego

As if he doesn't have enough on his plate this year, experimental American improv musician Jim O'Rourke has just announced a new series of vinyl-only releases that will plunder his no-doubt massive archives.

As previously reported, O'Rourke has already released Plastic People Vol. 1 with collaborator Christoph Heeman this year and is just about to issue the Merzbow/Mats Gustafsson jam session One Bird Two Bird, but there's way more in store for us, apparently. The artist is now teaming up with Editions Mego to continue on Old News, a series plugging the "analogue synth and tape works (both studio and live) from the depths of Jim O'Rourke's archive."

The first set Mego will release is titled Old News No. 5 and follows previously released Old News recordings that began back in 2002 with Vol. 1. Old News No. 5, which will drop June 10, highlights a performance O'Rourke did in Tokyo last year, as well as three studio pieces the musician recorded in Chicago, Tokyo and London. You can check out the tracklisting below. No other records have been announced as of yet, but it's surely just a matter of time.

Old news No. 5:

1. "Pedal & Pedal" [recorded live at Super Deluxe, Tokyo, 2010]

2. "Detain The Man To Whom" [recorded at Steamroom, Chicago, 1992]

3. "It's Not His Room Anymore" [recorded at Steamroom, Tokyo, 2010]

4. "Mother and Who" [recorded at Steamroom Mobile, London, 2003]
