If John Lennon were still alive, he would be turning 70 on October 9 of this year. To commemorate the Beatles icon's birthday, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is collecting birthday wishes, musical performances and fan tributes for a time capsule project that will be opened on October 9, 2040 - Lennon's 100th birthday.
There will be three time capsules stored in three different locations: one at the Rock Hall and two in "locations that have significance to John Lennon's legacy." (Here's guessing that means Liverpool and New York.)
In addition to fan tributes, the time capsule will contain John's post-Beatles recordings and other mementos. The project is overseen by the organizers of the Box of Vision, a retrospective Beatles box set that includes art books and a CD storage system.
The project comes with Yoko Ono's blessing, as she said in a statement, "I am delighted to support this effort to help share John's music and messages of peace and love with the children of today and tomorrow. I know that John's work, life and dreams will help inspire them to bring a better world for everyone."
As NME points out, this project is similar to the Imagine Peace Tower Ono created in Iceland in 2007, when she gathered wishes for peace in buried capsules.
