John Maus

"Believer"

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 21, 2011

We already caught wind of We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves, the latest album from lo-fi outsider John Maus. When the album was first announced, a press release said, "It's a record where promise takes the lead for the first time, providing a counterpoint to John's default existential calling." There's no missing the promise and positivity in "Believer," the album's triumphant closing track.

It's a hazy, '80s-infused gem laden with daydream synths and echoed vocals. You can give it a listen via the trippy, psychedelic video below or download the track here, courtesy of Gorilla vs. Bear.

We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves is due out June 28 via Ribbon Music.
