John Vanderslice didn't release an LP in 2010, but the indie rocker stayed on our radar with his EP, Green Grow the Rushes, which he unexpectedly released as a free download back in September. Now, he has announced his new album will be called White Wilderness and will be out early next year.
The title makes it sound a bit like a Christmas album ("Winter Wonderland," perhaps?), but the disc actually won't be out until after the holiday season, on January 25. The album is being credited to John Vanderslice with the Magik*Magik Orchestra, who have previously played live with the singer-songwriter (and are the house orchestra for his Tiny Telephone studio). Minna Choi led the orchestra as artistic director.
Like 2009's Romanian Names, the record will come out via Dead Oceans. It was recorded in San Francisco, CA in just three days by John Congleton (Modest Mouse, St. Vincent).
