Believe it or not, Montreal's current bread-making sensation, Johnny de Courcy, is actually a very accomplished musician! Knead proof? Well, a new EP of material has come straight out of the oven for all to enjoy. You can sample his The Master Manipulator online now.
The fresh, five-song set starts off with the title cut, a sly, off-the-cuff cut that portrays the solo artist as an "old-fashioned sinner".
Elsewhere, "Creepside" offers up Gerry Rafferty-style jazz rock and its fair share of vintage synths, while de Courcy adds a few sci-fi sounds to an otherwise faithful cover of Edwyn Collins' "A Girl Like You." A tearful piano ballad titled "Teenager" is followed by the instrumental "Slayer Castle Suite in Cm-ish."
Has de Courcy leavened the competition with his latest EP? You can figure it out for yourself by sampling his wares down below. Cassette copies of The Master Manipulator are available now via Euth Coast Records.
