After the breakout success of her 2012 LP Ekstasis, experimental pop artist Julia Holter signed on with Domino and announced plans for a new LP. Now, she's announced details for the new album.
The release is called Loud City Song and sees Holter attempting her most ambitious project to date. According to a press release, it's heavily inspired by the 1944 novella Gigi, using that "as a prism through which to explore her relationship with her hometown of Los Angeles and modern life universally, taking cues from the work of Joni Mitchell and the poetry of Frank O'Hara but forging those touch-points into something resolutely unique."
Don't think it's all heady, however, as her approach to sound is equally ambitious. The write-up continues by saying this album furthers her "rare gift for merging high concept, compositional prowess and experimentation with pop sensibility and applying it to a set of even more daringly beautiful arrangements and emotionally resonant songs."
Loud City Song will be available on August 20 via Domino. You can watch a music video for opening track "World" below.
In addition to the new release, Holter has planned an enormous world tour that includes Canadian stops in Montreal and Toronto. The full itinerary is available below.
