Keeping the legacy of Toronto's late Bloor Ossington Folk Festival burning bright and brutal into the future, Julie & the Wrong Guys pulled into the Garrison with a new seven-inch and enough energy to fuel even the hungriest of hearts.
The collaboration point between Julie Doiron, Eamon McGrath and Cancer Bats' rhythm section Mike Peters and Jaye Schwarzer, this meeting of minds you didn't know you needed has been slowly progressing for some four years, but following an October recording session we're told has resulted in a first full-length, the repertoire's been expanded to include a number of Wrong Guys originals.
So while fan-pleasing Doiron classics like "Condescending You," "Dark Horse," "Some Blues," "I Woke Myself Up" and "Borrowed Minivans" got blistering overhauls that often played up quiet-loud dynamics here, the band also debuted a number of new tracks at Wavelength, all brimming with heavy, searching guitar licks, delivered through a sea of high kicks and stomp pedals. Raw power for your soul.
