Last month, Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber unexpectedly cancelled the remaining 2017 dates on his "Purpose World Tour." Now, the 23-year-old singer has spoken up about his decision to take a time-out.
In a message posted to Instagram last night (August 2), Bieber offered his gratitude to fans and explained that he's been working hard at self-improvement.
"Learning and growing hasn't always been easy but knowing I'm not alone has kept me going," he writes. "I have let my insecurities get the best of me at times, I let my broken relationships dictate the way I acted toward people and the way I treated them. I let bitterness, jealousy and fear run my life."
He goes on to thank those around him that have helped him "build my character back up," and reminded him that "my past decisions and past relationships don't dictate my future decisions and future relationships."
He continues: "I'm VERY aware that I'm never gonna be perfect, and I'm gonna keep making mistakes but what I'm not gonna do is let my past dictate my future. What I'm not gonna do is be ashamed of my mistakes. I wanna be a man that learns from them and grows from them."
Bieber notes that his touring experience thus far has taught him a lot about himself, but he needed to take some time away from it.
"Me taking this time right now is me saying I want to be sustainable," he writes. "I want my career to be sustainable, but I also want my mind, heart and soul to be sustainable."
Before closing, he acknowledges that "THIS MESSAGE IS IS [sic] VERY GRAMMATICALLY INCORRECT BUT ITS [sic] FROM THE HEART."
He then ends the message: "BUT I THINK THERES [sic] SOMETHING SPECIAL ABOUT IMPERFECTIONS!!"
