Justin Bieber Under Fire for Defending Chris Brown on Social Media

BY Josiah HughesPublished May 5, 2019

Chris Brown's troubled history was recently discussed by Glasgow pop outfit Chvrches, who criticized their collaborator Marshmello for working with the artist. Brown responded with some pretty distasteful rhetoric, and now for some reason Justin Bieber has decided to enter the fray.

In a new Instagram post, Bieber shared a meme that suggests Chris Brown is an amalgamation of Tupac and Michael Jackson (the latter being another fairly tone-deaf choice for a comparison in 2019). In its accompanying caption, Bieber wrote, "I'm calling it now when CB passes away after a long full life, you will miss what you had in front of you the whole time ... trust me watch you will see. the people who have over looked this mans talent because of a mistake he made.. you need to reevaluate!"

He signed off the post with a "love you" for Chris Brown, and Brown replied with an all-caps, "I LOVE YOU MAN! THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING IN ME. YOUR STAR SHINES SO BRIGHT AND YOUR HEART IS UNMATCHED! YOU ARE A KING BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY YOU WERE PUT HERE TO INSPIRE AND CREATE ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES BRO! IM WITH YA TILL THE WHEELS FALL OFF AND WHEN THEY DO ... WE GONE GET SOME NEW WHEELS πŸ˜‚πŸ”₯πŸ™πŸ½β€οΈ"

The "mistake" Bieber is referring to is likely Brown's domestic violence case where he beat and threatened his then-girlfriend Rihanna, resulting in her hospitalization. Since then, however, Brown has had a number of run-ins with the law, most recently being arrested in Paris over a rape allegation

Bieber's comment has since resulted in a great deal of criticism on social media. Presumably in response to the backlash, Bieber wrote on his Instagram story, "Bullying is not okay! Ever. It is actually killing people, young people." Read some posts about his comment below.
