Justin Trudeau to Attend the Tragically Hip's Kingston Show

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 18, 2016

The Tragically Hip kicked off their "Man Machine Poem Tour" in style in Victoria last month, and have been honoured by many Canadian cities along the way, but it's the band's upcoming hometown show in Kingston this Saturday (August 20) that may prove the most emotional one yet.

Now, it's been revealed that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be amongst the throngs of adoring fans at the K-Rock Centre on Saturday night. His spokeswoman Kate Purchase recently announced the politician's plans to attend the show.

Trudeau previously revealed his inner fanboy, deeming frontman Gord Downie "an extraordinary Canadian force and icon."

It's unclear what kind of strings the nation's leader had to pull to get a notoriously difficult to obtain ticket to the concert, but for anyone who won't be getting into show, don't worry — the full concert will be broadcast on CBC.

The Kingston stop marks the end of the Tragically Hip's "Man Machine Poem Tour," which has been the band's first since Downie revealed his terminal brain cancer diagnosis this spring. At the time the dates were announced, the group promised fans that they would "try to make this our best tour yet."
