Kalle Mattson has an EP called Avalanche on the way, and with a number of weeks still to go until the August 21 release date on Home Music Co., the emotionally vulnerable songwriter has shared a lyric video for the track "A Long Time Ago."
In this song, Mattson sets a wistful, nostalgic tone with his fragile coo, and the arrangement swells from quiet balladry to a lush soundscape of atmospheric ambience and echoing drum programming. The lyrics are written out in the form of helium-filled silver balloons, with the clip having been created over the course of an entire day and night in a gymnasium near Hamilton, ON.
"I wrote 'A Long Time Ago' really quickly the night before one of the sessions for Avalanche, and I think it really encapsulates a lot of the themes on this new EP," Mattson said in a statement. "Anxiety, nostalgia, the past, the future... It's basically about being in your early 20s and not knowing what the fuck your life is."
