Kandle recently shared spotlight with Jack White in his "Corporation" video, but the Canadian songwriter is reclaiming it for herself with the announcement of her sophomore album.
Titled Holy Smoke, the full-length is due out September 28 via Sleepless Records.
The album was recorded all across Canada, from Victoria to Toronto to her bedroom in Montreal. It was produced by John Agnello and Alex Bonenfant, and features guest contributions from Peter Dreimanis of July Talk on "When My Body Breaks," Leon Taheny on "Child of Fate" and Sam Goldberg Jr. of Broken Social Scene on a wide range of tracks.
As another taste of the new album, Kandle has unveiled the Taheny-featuring "Child of Fate."
Speaking of the new song, Kandle explained, "The record was done, I was heartbroken and singing in the shower constantly. I was listening to hundreds of old sad soulful songs in 6/8, to help cope with my pain. I slowly became determined to express that same raw vulnerability of abandonment and hurt. I teamed up with Leon Taheny and Michael Sonier and by the end of the day one, we had it. And that little piece of pure raw emotion made its way onto Holy Smoke."
