Despite our recent attempts to avoid all "news" stemming from the suspiciously busy Kanye West blog, we are going to make an exception today, but only because Kanye has given some props to our one-time cover stars the Acorn.
On Thursday (January 29), the rapper-turned-Auto-Tune-addict penned the all-caps message, "THIS IS BEAUTIFUL," linking to the Acorn's video for their Glory Hope Mountain track "Crooked Legs" (see below). Yeah, okay, it's not big, hard-hitting news but still it's kind of cool, or at least the Acorn think so.
In the blog's comment section, Rolf Klausener replied:
Hey Kanye,
This is Rolf, the singer from the Acorn. Glad you like the video. I was channeling you while I was driving. Could you tell? Also, I LOOOOVE your video for CAN'T TELL ME NOTHIN' with Zach Galifianakis and Will Oldham. Shit was crazy funny. Come over for a barbeque next time you're in Ottawa. We can drink some cheap beer and play with the neighbourhood cats.
High-fives,
Rolf
And if being given the seal of Kanye approval wasn't enough praise for these Ottawa folkies, they have just expanded their UK tour thanks to even more championing, this time by Mercury Prize winners Elbow. Apparently, front-man Guy Garvey is a big Acorn fan, and by big we mean naming the band's Glory Hope Mountain as his all-time favourite record of last year in the pages of MOJO and the Observer. And now, after seeing that the Acorn were heading across the pond, he's asked the group to join Elbow as their special guests for the group's upcoming UK tour.
If you're over in that part of the world, here are the Acorn's upcoming dates, which also find them playing two high-profile shows with Seattle's much-loved Fleet Foxes:
2/23 London, England - Roundhouse*
2/25 Paris, France - La Cigale*
2/28 Brighton, England - Dome**
3/1 Southend, England - Cliffs Pavilion**
3/2 Bournemouth, England - Solent Hall**
3/3 Sheffield, England - Academy**
3/5 Newcastle, England - Academy**
3/6 Edinburgh, England - Corn Exchange**
3/7 Blackpool, England - Empress Ballroom**
3/9 Llandudno, England - Arena**
3/10 Bristol, England - Colston Hall**
3/11 Plymouth, England - Pavilions**
3/12 Newport, England - Cantre**
3/13 London, England - The Windmill Brixton
3/14 Londo, England - Wembley Arena**
