Kathleen Edwards has been having a tough go of it lately. Having canceled a batch of tour dates due to vocal fatigue back in the spring, the singer is currently recovering from a medical scare after going into anaphylactic shock following a run-in with a wasp.
The incident took place on Sunday (September 9), when Edwards was performing at Windsor, ON's Shores of Erie International Wine Festival. She posted the following explanation on Facebook: "Just want to thank the St. Johns ambulance and the Windsor EMT's. I went into anaphylactic shock yesterday after getting stuck several times by a yellow jacket. An epi-pen saved my life, says the ER doctor. Bees and wasps are no longer welcome at my shows. Thanks, paramedics."
Additionally, she tweeted, "Anaphylactic shock is not fun. But not as bad if it happens right AFTER you play the show. #ouchy." She subsequently posted a very painful-looking picture of her swollen arm. And in a moment of over-sharing, she added, "vag hives."
Edwards is scheduled to play a number of North American shows in the coming weeks. As far as we know, the wasp attack won't interfere with any of those gigs. See her schedule below.
