KEN Mode Sign to Season of Mist for 'Entrench'

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jan 8, 2013

When Exclaim! put Winnipeg's KEN Mode on our recent Most Anticipated Canadian Albums of 2013 list, we really didn't have too much info to go on, but the band have finally offered up the details of their upcoming record, which is now officially titled Entrench. The LP will be their first for their new label home Season of Mist, and it will hit retailers March 19 on CD and digitally, with a vinyl release to follow.

A press release for the set explains that it takes the approach of KEN Mode's 2011 LP Venerable, and "further asserts the band's stance against a stagnant take on rock, metal and hardcore." As previously reported, the album was tracked with esteemed Seattle engineer Matt Bayles (Botch, Mastodon, Isis).

The band issued a statement saying that the 11-song LP is "our most collaborative effort, and the most creative and sonically diverse album of our entire career." While it hints that the band still home in on their Amphetamine Reptile Records-saluting roots, the noise rock effort is said to also feature piano, keyboards and strings.

On top of the core trio in KEN Mode, Entrench features some guest screaming from former Botch/current Narrows vocalist Dave Verellen, as well as former Deadguy/Kiss It Goodbye frontman Tim Singer. "Both of them add another layer of icing to the metallic-hardcore-noise-rock-whatever-core cake we've baked," the group added.

As previously reported, KEN Mode will be on tour supporting Today Is the Day on their upcoming North American tour, which includes a few Canadian dates. You can see the show schedule below.
