Kid 606

Down With the Scene

BY Kevin Stewart-PankoPublished Sep 1, 2000

I'd be a whole lot more impressed with Kid 606 if it was band and not one guy. The music is a crazy, cut & paste pastiche of electronica, digital hardcore and noise rock. Kind of a cross between Boredoms, Disco Volante-era Mr. Bungle, ATR, Melvins and the sonic horror of the Cold Meat Industry roster. Sounds reminiscent of Kitchener, ON's Schizoid. The majority of songs lurch between genres with stop-on-a-dime genre splicing to keep the listener guessing. Hence my thinking that this would be completely unbelievable if a band had performed these sounds and not some guy sitting behind a computer. But hey, good sounds are good sounds, regardless of how they are produced.
