Kim Gordon Sets Release Date for 'Girl in a Band' Memoirs

It's been a tumultuous few years for Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon, who split from longtime partner Thurston Moore in 2001 and battled breast cancer. It's high time, therefore, that the iconic indie rock figure document her journey with an autobiography. The Girl in a Band will be out on February 24 through HarperCollins imprint Dey Street Books.

The book traces her life from childhood through her time in Sonic Youth to the present. It seems that Gordon will be addressing her split with Moore very directly, since a description reads [via Pitchfork], "At the heart of the book is the examination of what partnership means — and what happens when it dissolves."

The tome will also cover "the story of her childhood, her life in art, her move to New York City, her love affairs, her marriage, her relationship with her daughter, and her band." It will take a look at New York in the '80s and '90s and document the alt-rock explosion in which Sonic Youth played an integral role.

Gordon had been promising this memoir for some time. She began talking about the book more than a year ago, and it was preceded by the essays collection Is It My Body? Selected Texts earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Gordon is currently said to be in Vancouver recording a new album with visual artist/musician Rodney Graham.
