After sharing "If Not Now, Then When?," "O.N.E." and "Pleura" in recent months, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have now released their third album in the band's series of "explorations into microtonal tunings," L.W., the follow-up to 2020's K.G.

The band's Stu Mackenzie previously said that L.W. would be delayed, but instead, we in the Western Hemisphere get the album a day early — because it's already tomorrow in the band's homeland of Australia.

"We're actually probably not as considered as people think that we are," Mackenzie explained of the record. "I'm always just trying to be in the band that I want to be in. But I'm also trying to be the band that I wish I could follow as a fan; so we're both of those things at the same time. And I think that's where my decision-making lies: I'm always asking, what is the most fun thing we can do? If there's a strategy at all, then it's that."

The release of the album arrives with a special incentive to purchase your own copy, as the band have committed to donating $1 from each download to Greenfleet, an organization that plants "native biodiverse forests" in Australia and New Zealand.

The band wrote:

We're aiming to make 2,000 downloads which is enough to revegetate 1,000m2 at Pearsons Block in Central Victoria. Some of the species endemic to this region include Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora), Varnish Wattle (Acacia verniciflua) and Sweet Bursaria (Bursaria spinosa).

You will be creating habitat for the local wildlife species, playing a vital role in reconnecting parts of the Wychitella Biolink. Some of the species known to the area are Lace monitors, Quolls and the vulnerable Mallee Fowl. Other native and endangered bird species can be found in the area as well, including Shy Heathwrens and Inland Thornbills.

Protected for 100 years, these trees will grow into a thriving and resilient forest restoring the native ecosystem in the area and increasing the overall biodiversity and resilience. Good stuff!

In addition to the release of their 17th studio album, the band have also shared a hellish animated clip created by Jason Galea to accompany the album closer, "K.G.L.W." As Mackenzie explained, "Jase went to Hell and captured some incredible footage."

Listen to L.W. and watch that video below.
