Live All Over the Place

BY Stuart GreenPublished Nov 1, 2004

16 years and ten albums since they first burst onto the scene delighting fans of Rush and Dream Theatre-like progressive hard rock, the Texas trio unleashes their first live album. A double-disc set recorded during their 2003 Black Like Sunday North American tour, the record perfectly captures a band that is at times brilliant and at others flawed in a live setting. Their studio records are always so polished and perfect that when they fuck up live (which seemingly happens at least twice every show) and are able to laugh it off or recover with total grace and dignity in tact, it’s a testament to their professionalism. The highlight of the set is the first half of disc two which features an acoustic set of material, some of which hasn’t been played in years.
