K'naan Looking For Fans To Tweet Him Some Lyrics

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Apr 1, 2009

At long last, a musician is finally putting Twitter to some good, practical use. Starting today (April 1), Somali-Canadian hip-hopper K'naan is inviting fans to collaborate with him via the micro-blogging tool and asking that they send in tweets to help recreate his Troubadour track "People Like Me."

In a nutshell, here's how this Twitter remix works. Become a follower of K'naan (here), listen to a special instrumental version of the song (here), and then drop your own lyrical science and Twitter your own "People Like Me" rhymes over to K'naan with the tag #knaansong. Following the May 1 deadline, K'naan will gather up his favourite tweets and record the results, allowing fans to download the final track for free on his website and via his Twitter.

Okay, yes, the K'naan camp is obviously doing this all for a bit of self-promotion, but it does seem like a better use of Twitter than simply posting mindless updates like "Chillin' in the studio" and "Really rocked Cincinnati last night."
