Swedish electronic experimentalists the Knife have begun rolling out information on a series of North American dates and will be bringing their high-concept stage show behind last year's challenging Shaking the Habitual LP to at least two Canadian cities.
On top of the recently revealed double appearance at Indio, CA's Coachella fest in April, more North American dates have now surfaced. Via the band's website, they revealed this includes an up-north appearances at Toronto's Kool Haus on April 25 and Montreal's Metropolis on April 26, as well as gigs in Chicago, New York, Denver and Boston.
The Knife's current stage show made headlines last year over its elaborate costumes, dance routines, use of playback and lipsyncing and a general obscuring of who's who between project founders Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer and the additional performers.
"Working within a highly commercial, professionalised and male-dominated music industry, we strive to twist and strangle hierarchies to find other ways of organizing work and its conditions," the band said of the non-traditional show in a statement. "Disrespecting borders between digital and analogue, fake and real, professional and dilettante, star and cast, experimental acts and glamorous shows, nature and culture, audience and artist, blood family and chosen family, dance and action, a Buchla and bongo and the sound of a hit and a kiss."
However, the Knife noted that the North American shows won't run exactly the same as their European dates did last year, adding that they've tweaked the formula by adding new songs and movies to the performance.
They elaborated: "Some songs are the same, some songs are new. Moves are added and changed. Some instruments are electrified and more voices are heard. Things glow and along the way we have elevated ourselves."
Tour dates:
04/11 Indio, CA - Coachella
04/18 Indio, CA - Coachella
04/23 Chicago, IL - Aragon Ballroom
04/24 Denver, CO - Fillmore Auditorium
04/25 Toronto, ON - Kool Haus
04/26 Montreal, QC - Metropolis
04/28 Boston, MA - House of Blues
04/30 New York, NY - Terminal 5
