Would you pay over $2,500 for a pack of cigarettes? What if they once belonged to Kurt Cobain?
An unopened pack of American Spirit menthol cigarettes belonging to the late Nirvana bandleader are being sold through Julien's Auctions latest live auction event, "Played, Worn & Torn: Rock 'n' Roll Iconic Guitars and Memorabilia."
According to the pack's official lot description, American Spirit menthols were Cobain's preferred brand of cigarettes. The pack was kept by Cobain's roommate at a rehabilitation clinic in Los Angeles, where he briefly stayed in March 1994, several days before he took his own life.
With a starting bid of $200 USD — and an initial expected sell price of $800–$1,200 — the cigarettes have already exceeded both and are sitting at a $2,750 bid as of press time.
Julien's Auctions has also acquired more of the late musician's memorabilia, including handwritten notes and sketches, a pair of jeans Cobain wore in Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" music video, and a stage-smashed Fender Stratocaster signed by the band, among others.
The auction will be taking place this weekend, from November 16 to 18. Find the full catalogue of available items online, and bid on Cobain's cigarettes here.
