L CON Announces New 7-Inch Ahead of Upcoming LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jul 6, 2015

Toronto artist Lisa Conway's catalogue as L CON currently includes 2012's The Ballad Project and the 2013's The Ballads Reimagined. Now, she's back with a 7-inch ahead of a new full-length album.

The 7-inch is called The Distance of the Moon, and it will be out on August 7. It consists of two early versions of songs from the upcoming album. At the bottom of the page, watch a half-minute teaser for the 7-inch, which matches quietly droning synth tones with footage of the moon.

As an accompaniment to the 7-inch, L CON will stage a sound installation called Moon Phone as part of the Parkdale Film + Video Showcase in Toronto. This will take place at the Rhino on August 8. It will be followed by a vinyl release gig on August 12 at Toronto's Junction City Music Hall with the Burning Hell. A Ontario fall tour will be announced closer to the time.

As for L CON's upcoming full-length, it's called Moon Milk and is expected out in early 2016. The album was recorded at Toronto's Music Gallery by L CON's own Andrew Collins (the Skeletones Four), with Conway handling production herself. Mary Wood (a.k.a. Warbler) provides additional accompaniment. The album is based on Italo Calvino's 1965 short story collection Cosmicomics, and an announcement promises that the sounds are "equally inspired by natural room tones, reverberations, and resonances, and sleek '80s pop production."

Meanwhile, L CON and her band are among the finalists for the Harbourfront Centre's SoundClash Music Awards. She's one of five contenders vying for the $10,000 prize.
