Laura Barrett Snags Opening Slot on Magnetic Fields' North American Tour

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jan 20, 2010

Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist Laura Barrett doesn't seem to slow down much. Between playing synth for the Hidden Cameras and collaborating on theatrical projects, she has also found the time to release her own solo work. Her debut album, 2008's Victory Garden, was proof to us that "the literate, vibrant and brave female songwriters of Canada [were] having a hell of a year." Or at least, that's what we said.

Two years later, and Barrett is still reeling from the release. Though she's already toured the record internationally, she has announced an 11-date trek where she'll be supporting legendary indie rock icons the Magnetic Fields. As previously reported, the itinerary includes Canadian stops in Montreal and Toronto.

Besides hitting the road, Barrett has also released a video for the Victory Garden standout "The Wood Between Worlds." The video can be viewed below.

According to a press release, Barrett is putting the finishing touches on a covers album, due out this spring. It will be followed by a brand new full-length in the fall.
