It's been four years since LCD Soundsystem released American Dream, which is approximately the same amount of time they stayed retired for after that big farewell show in 2011. Now, James Murphy has revealed that the band are on "full hiatus" and don't have anything at all in the works.
He shared the news on the podcast WTF with Marc Maron. "We're not rehearsing," Murphy told the host. "We'll figure something out when the time is right. Right now, we're on full hiatus. Because of the nature of the band, when we're not touring, we're just back to normal life completely. And if I'm making a record, that's my problem."
When Maron pressed about whether they had any plans, Murphy responded, "Not yet. Always in theory, [we're] planning on something, but I don't want to go out [on tour] without new music."
Murphy said he had spent the pandemic building his studio, going fishing, raising a new baby and focusing on his restaurant. And just to really drive the point home, Maron asked if he had made any music during the pandemic, and Murphy said, "None. No work."

Meanwhile, LCD Soundsystem are reissuing The Long Goodbye, the live album of those "farewell" shows. Maybe they should retire again — that way, they might be more likely to make another album.
