LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy to Direct Short Film with Ron Howard

After executive producing and stealing the show in the recent LCD Soundsystem documentary Shut Up and Play the Hits, frontman James Murphy will be trying his hand at directing.

The film will be created in association with Canon's Project Imaginat10n, which enlists stars to direct shorts based on images pertaining to ten storytelling themes. The photos can be submitted by anyone, connecting users to celebrities like Murphy, Jamie Foxx and Eva Longoria. Designer Georgina Chapman and Twitter co-founder Biz Stone round out the list of directors for the project.

Lending some serious credence to the upcoming films, the directors will be mentored by Hollywood giant Ron Howard.

Production on Murphy's film is slated to begin in early 2013, with the premiere taking place later in the year. Speaking about the project, Murphy is quoted on the project's website as saying: "I'm excited to direct something narrative, and really looking forward to working with Ron, learning as much as I can."

Murphy will no doubt be kept busy, despite the dissolution of his band, having hinted at future collaborations and setting October 9 as the DVD/Blu-ray release date for Shut Up and Play the Hits.
