Late last year, we learned that riot grrl icon Kathleen Hanna of Le Tigre/Bikini Kill would be getting her own documentary, as director Sini Anderson began putting together footage for The Kathleen Hanna Project. We're still waiting for that film to be finished, but we've now received word that another Le Tigre flick will be released on DVD.
On June 7, the group will release Who Took the Bomp? Le Tigre on Tour via Oscilloscope Laboratories. A press release says that the musicians "[confront] sexism and homophobia in the music industry while tearing up the stage via performance art poetics, no-holds-barred lyrics, punk rock ethos, and whip-smart wit in this edgy and entertaining documentary."
The film contains unseen live performances, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. It was directed by Kerthy Fix, who also helmed last year's Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields, and is reportedly "a look into their world and a document of their thrilling multimedia performances."
Before the DVD release, the film will be screened at SXSW and at New York's Museum of Modern Art. See the dates below.
Screening dates:
3/17 Austin, TX - State Theatre
3/19 Austin, TX - Vimeo Theatre
4/4 New York, NY - MoMA
