Lee Bannon Announces Drone LP 'Pattern of Excel'

In the few years that he's been on our radar, Californian beatsmith Lee Bannon has demonstrated a vast skill set. He's produced beats for Joey Bada$$, Bishop Nehru and members of Anthrax, and his solo material has explored a crossover of jungle and hip-hop. For his next LP, however, Bannon's gone ambient.

The release is called Pattern of Excel, and a press release explains that it's "a considered exploration of ambient soundscapes and drone influences."

Speaking with Resident Advisor, Bannon said he hardly thinks the new album is a major departure from his work. "I feel like there is not a big difference between my upcoming second LP and the first," he explained. "On Pattern of Excel, the difference is I wanted to embrace the calm, which I [always] felt like doing at times but because of a genre, or to stay in my 'lane' or to make it accessible for people, I'd insert percussion and never truly go as deep. This goes deeper."

Pattern of Excel will arrive on July 10 through Ninja Tune. It marks Bannon's second full-length for the label, following 2013's Alternate / Endings.
