Canadian hero Daniel Lanois has announced he's about to release new song featuring none other than the late Leonard Cohen. Called "Torn Again," the team-up is due out tomorrow (July 1).

"Torn Again" comes as part of Lanois' Maker Series brand, and according to a press release, on the song "Lanois' signature ambience floats and suspends Leonard's iconic voice as he recites his beautiful and somber poetic passage."

UPDATE (7/1, 12 p.m.): Right now, you can listen to "Torn Again" below.

In a statement, Lanois said the following of the Cohen-featuring song:

There are moments in this creative journey that stand out in a quiet profound permanence. This Leonard Cohen poem and reading from the man himself, always left me with that special feeling. The framing of Leonard's reading started as a slide guitar performance with my good friend Rocco Deluca.

The spine of our steel guitars became the rock for the poem to stand on. Wayne Lorenz and I spent many hours in the studio rearranging and dubbing out the steel to enhance the lyrical journey with orchestral compliment. I'm very proud of this work, may it keep on reaching and speaking.

The song comes in the wake of Lanois' recent album Heavy Sun, which has been nominated for the Polaris Music Prize.
