Les Momies De Palerme

Les Momies de Palerme are two pretty girls from Montreal named Marie Davidson and Xarah Dion, who are unabashedly and unashamedly making strange, synth-driven, ethereal music with just a hint of preciousness. This is mind music, with Marie and Xarah's lilting harmonies making cameo appearances amongst the dense soundscapes, evoking both beauty and unease. As they've joined hands on their album cover, Davidson and Dion's work suggests tales of gothic horror, with the pair casting themselves as mysterious sisters with a yen for human sacrifice, but really they're just harmless art-school kids playing around with their funny noise-making machines. Fitting in snugly with the talented roster of non-conformists found on their label, Constellation, Les Momies cleverly manipulate their electronics into speaking in a more organic fashion, never really feeling cold or distant. Brûlez ce Coeur tends to find a comfortable groove and stick to it to a fault, and it feels a little unfinished and samey-sounding, but it's also a unique and pleasurable listen. For those looking for a little more warmth with their minimal electronics, this is one for the headphones.
