Since forming in 2006, Letter to the Exiles have spent their time carefully working on a sound hoping to be uniquely their own. On their debut full-length release, however, the Long Island, NY natives aren't delivering anything new to the Christian metalcore genre, but still come out sounding heavy, and with a message in mind. With seasoned vocalist Erich Barto from the now defunct Alove for Enemies (who were arguably more aggressive and creative), he doesn't show his previous vocal range and keeps his screams at a monotone level throughout the ten-track album. While musically Letter to the Exiles shows diversity by incorporating death metal riff influences, the overall sound is lacklustre at best. But with plenty of breakdowns and mosh-call moments riddled throughout this release, it's safe to say that LTTE are a band that would win over a live crowd at any performance.
