It really seems that no matter how much trouble Ms. Britney Spears gets into she always manages to sneak out a massive single. Such is the case with "Womanizer," the addictively thumping lead track from her new album Circus. The song is so good, in fact, that British pop export Lily Allen just couldn't resist covering it for fun.
That's where it was supposed to end. No one was supposed to hear the cover (read: her label EMI didn't want it leaked), but Allen's producer Mark Ronson decided to debut the track on his weekly New York radio show, Authentic Shit. He was supposed to watermark the track, but chose not to. This decision has supposedly gotten Allen into a little bit of trouble.
In a post on her blog, Allen explains the scenario, stating, "now some of you may be wondering why i covered 'Womanizer,' simple, really , I love Britney and I love the song; it wasn't my intention for it to have whizzed round the world like it has. Mark Ronson asked me for something no one had heard to play on his radio show and "Womanizer" was the only song I had as an attachment on my Blackberry and I couldn't get home to send him anything else in time. I had asked him to talk all over it so it wouldn't get ripped but he didn't. Thanks, Mark, for getting me in serious trouble with my record company."
Trouble is, the Lily Allen version is fantastic and very hard to ignore, which is why we decided to embed it below.
