Who are you?
Lisa Nighswander, singer and bass player for Mean Red Spiders.
What are you up to?
We released our second CD StarsandSons this summer. We're playing a few shows here and there, working on new material and planning an American tour in November.
Hometown and current HQ:
Altona, ON, and Toronto
Current fixations:
Watching the garden grow, listening to l head l phone l over l tone l "Summer Of Love" and Christiana "Hydrofield Of Myth," reading Wavelength zines and eating farm fresh corn on the cob.
Mind altering work of art:
Having had a fair share of mind altering experiences I'll pick the first that comes to me for whatever reason.... Flying Saucer Attack, Rural Psychedelia
Most memorable/inspiration gig and why?
Opening for Sam Prekop in Montreal. Warm and fuzzy and a truly memorable experience
What should everyone shut up about?
I might get in trouble for this, but enough about The Beatles!
Your greatest strength/weakness:
Patience/procrastination
Your vital daily ritual:
Fruit and vegetables
Guilty pleasure:
Lots of pleasures - no guilt
If I wasn't playing music I would be:
Starting my own clothing line.
Your most memorable day job:
My current job building props at Young People's Theatre
Best/worst advice received:
Best: do unto others as you would have them do unto to you.
Worst: don't move in with that guy.
I would drop everything to play a benefit for:
An alternative school or summer camp. Anything that makes growing up easier or helps kids find their niche.
What makes you want to take it off and get it on?
A certain skinny little ass
What personal trait would make you kick someone out of your band and/or bed? And have you?
Bad timing might get you the boot
What I think of Canada I think:
Driving and more driving and big rigs in the rear view mirror.
Music and sex: Is there a difference? Why?
Thinking about it, the similarities outweigh the differences...both will lift your spirits no matter how bad your mood and each often inspires the other.
Strangest brush with celebrity:
Years ago, going to the ball with Prince Edward
What does your mom wish you were doing instead?
I'm sure she could make a few suggestions but basically if I'm happy, she's happy!
