Lisabo

Egun Bat Nonahi

BY Craig DunsmuirPublished Jun 1, 2002

Translating to mean "any day, anywhere" in the group's native tongue of Basque, this three-song EP combines Godspeed! drone orchestrations and spoken word treatises on the oppressive dreariness of daily routine with harder edged rhythm section work and even the odd screamo crescendo to keep things enticing. Beautifully packaged with removable cut-out cardboard squares outlining each song's translation in Basque, Spanish, French and English, Lisabo may not quite be up there with the Ex or anything, but there's something intangibly substantial beyond the cultural novelty factor that sets them apart from most of the current crop of anarcho rock orchestra brooders.
