Listen to Bruce Springsteen's The Promise Sampler

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 11, 2010

In recent years, Bruce Springsteen has been embraced by a new generation, with bands like Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and the National championing the Boss and covering his songs live. The timing is perfect, then, for The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town Story, a box set that anthologizes Springsteen's 1978 classic, Darkness on the Edge of Town. And right now, we have a taste of what's in store via a new album sampler.

As previously announced, the set is due out on November 16 via Columbia, and it contains three CDs, three DVDs and an 80-page book. The CDs include the original album remastered, plus 21 unreleased songs from the Darkness sessions, which have been compiled in the album The Promise. The DVDs contain live performances and the documentary The Promise: The Making of Darkness of the Edge of Town. You can peruse the contents here.

For those who don't want to splurge for the full box set, The Promise will be released as a stand-alone album. This is available on two CDs or four LPs, and it comes with an essay written by Springsteen.

We have a sampler for The Promise streaming over at our Click Hear section, so head here to listen to 15 of the songs, as well as check out a trailer for the album. There's also a video for the track "Save My Love."
