This year, music fans have seen non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and blockchain technology rapidly adopted by artists and creators of all sizes, and the world's largest concert promoter is betting that the craze could extend to audiences by in the form of collectible digital ticket stubs.
Yes, you will no longer need to treasure your stack of card or paper-printed tickets, as Live Nation will usher in "Live Stubs" for you to collect instead.
Included with tickets on select Live Nation shows in North America, the digital collectibles "will mirror the unique section, row, and seat of each ticket purchased," allowing for "a whole new world of possibilities for artists to extend the live experience and engage with ticket holders before, during and after the show," should they or their team be in the know about crypto.
Live Nation shares that fans in possession of "Live Stubs" will be "able to view, share, gift, trade, and resell" the collectibles through their website. A press release touts the use of an "eco-friendly blockchain" and the ability for artists to "share NFTs at scale on a platform that naturally celebrates their most loyal fans," while also clarifying that "Live Stubs" are not going to replace the digital tickets needed to enter shows.
"Live Stubs" will first be made available as part of Swedish House Mafia's recently announced 2022 North American tour, which features three Canadian dates.
For at least this tour, the collectibles will be given free to fans who "purchase a primary ticket to tour stops that are promoted by Live Nation and in venues powered by Ticketmaster's digital ticketing platform."
Earlier this year, we asked Canadian artists to show off ticket stubs from their favourite concerts.
